I hinted at it a few days ago on my Facebook, but now its official. Something Else Music LTD, my label I am currently signed to will be officially shutting down come the beginning of next month. As such, my planned single “Arcadia” and the first single I was working on with recently signed music group Otaku Nunchaku has been cancelled. Other unannounced projects will be effected as well.
Legally, I can’t talk in-depth about the situation, but the result of the label closing is due to lack of sample clearance with another release (Not one of mine.) The copyright holders of the sample in question are seeking money for damages and the amount easily puts Something Else in the red.
In other words: Game Over.
Let this be a lesson to potential musicians or indie labels looking to put out a release with samples in it: Artists, ALWAYS get permission. Labels: GET THE PERMISSION AGAIN! Don’t gamble your money and your reputation, because eventually they will find you and you will pay.
Regardless of the outcome, I do want to thank Scott Taiden for signing me to the label in the first place. You and the rest of the crew did a amazing job promoting the Freedom EP and taking care of the fees involved. I wish you guys the best of luck with everything.
So where does that leave Unleaded Logic? Its time to refocus and see what the next logical step should be…
Stay tuned.
